Amanda Robinette - Western Sakiori

I am very excited to announce I will be teaching Western Sakiori Scarf at The Mannings in East Berlin, PA on May 31st–June1st.  I am really looking forward to teaching at the school where I took my first weaving classes and the staff have become friends over the years.  The Mannings is an idyllic spot in the middle of farmland next to a creek and is a wonderful place to spend a weekend.  By the end of May we will thankfully be done with this long, cold winter we are having here in central PA (and many other parts of the country).  We should be able to hang our scarves outside on the line to dry in some spring sunshine!

Also, since Tom Knisely, the general manager and resident instructor, shares my interest in historical rural Japanese textiles and has a growing collection of his own, I should have some extra samples of different techniques to show everyone (hint, hint, Tom!).

I am also really pleased with how this particular sample scarf came out!  It has a supple, crisp finish with beautiful drape, and the colors of the rags really showed themselves to advantage in this combination.  The scarf pictured here will be on display near the checkout desk at The Mannings through the spring, so if you are there do have a look (and a feel!) at it and see for yourself what we will be making in class.
