Tomorrow I travel to Providence, R.I. for the Handweavers Guild of America biennial conference, Convergence. I am signed up for a four-day class with John Marshall called Hinagata: Working in Miniature Dye and Sewing Traditions. We are going to be constructing Japanese garments that are accurately detailed, but made in miniature. I am hoping in this class to improve my knowledge of Japanese sewing and patterning techniques and to practice my hand-sewing.
Unfortunately I will miss most of the reasons people attend Convergence, such as the exhibits, fashion show and the marketplace. My class runs from Friday through Monday and there isn’t much going on until Wednesday. Oh well–another time I will try for the real Convergence experience!
I have been busy getting ready for the trip this week. I also dropped off some pieces at the Mechanicsburg Art Center for the Artisan’s Exhibit that opens on Friday and runs through the end of the month–a nice, small exhibit close to home.
I put in one sakiori scarf and a small informational display for anyone interested in learning something new.
In the next post I’ll talk about my class and Convergence, and perhaps some information and photos about a side excursion I am planning….
Love the scarf – enjoy Convergence. MEL
